About Us
Optimus Solutions provides comprehensive IT solutions designed to
streamline business processes and improve communication in the
workplace. These solutions are enhanced with a range of integration and
consulting services, as well as hardware, software and storage product
offerings. Our experienced account managers and certified technical
teams work with clients to deliver innovative solutions to the most
demanding business and IT challenges.
Optimus is a fast-growing developer of web-based applications and has
specific expertise in high availability solutions, server consolidation,
networking and security solutions. The company is also a Value Added
Reseller (VAR) for IBM systems and software (pSeries, iSeries, xSeries
and Storage) as well as a Premier IBM business partner. Optimus is also
a certified Cisco Silver partner and VAR.
At Optimus, our goal is to bring business and technology together. To
that effect, we’ve identified the crucial components of the IT
infrastructure that make up the foundation of any
business—Internetworking, Application Development, Servers, Software and
Storage. By delivering comprehensive solutions and services in these
critical areas, Optimus can help make technology work for your business.
Company History
In 1998, Mark Metz and three business partners joined forces to form
Optimus Solutions. Metz brought a wealth of valuable IT industry
management experience and skills to his new company, helping to form the
background of a successful entrepreneurship. The remaining three
entrepreneurs focused their attention on customer satisfaction and in
hiring key personnel in customer delivery areas such as account
relationship management and consulting services. Optimus was awarded a
Small Business Association Loan of $700,000 in August of 1998, enabling
the company to acquire office facilities and fund the continued addition
of employees. By the end of 1998 the company had 17 employees, generated
$8.7 million in revenue, and had moved into a 14,000-sq ft office.
Optimus Solutions has increased its strength by making key growth
decisions and partnering with the IT industry’s leaders. In September of
2000, Optimus partnered with IBM, followed in October of 2003 by Cisco.
In June of 2002 Optimus Solutions was named an IBM Premier Partner for
both hardware and software, and in June of 2004 Optimus received the
Cisco Silver Authorization.
In 2003, Steve Johnson joined the Optimus team as Executive Vice
President and General Manager. In just one short year, he helped the
company double their sales revenue, from $37 million in 2003 to $70
million in 2004. Johnson has a long career in the IT industry, starting
out as a sales representative for Harris Corporation in 1983 and
eventually forming his own company, Bay Data Consultants, which he later
merged with Mark Metz’s Optimus Solutions.
By February 2004, in the wake of enormous financial growth and success,
Optimus made the transition to a 46,000 square-foot, state of the art
facility in Norcross’ Technology Park. The company announced 2005
revenues of $92 million.
Optimus’ success is due in part to our consulting services practice,
which was built by selectively adding certified consultants and assets
as opportunities arose. This gradual approach has ensured that only the
best resources form the Optimus consulting team. The Chicago offices of
Optimus Solutions were formed from the acquisition of Aspen Consulting,
and gave customers an even wider range of hardware, software, and
services offerings. The Optimus team was further strengthened with
personnel acquisitions from Crescendo Consulting, 3X Corporation
Atlanta, and eDeltacom.
In September 2005, with the acquisitions of Mahre Consulting and
Eagle Technology Consultants, Optimus formed a separate consulting
division called Optimus Consulting. With new leadership and fresh
technology skills, the formation of Optimus Consulting extended the
scope of Optimus’ IT services capabilities. Newly acquired capabilities
such as business process modeling, analysis, and re-engineering offer
the client insight to best leverage IT for business success. To access

In 2003, Optimus developed a mission statement consisting of 5
principles, which were based around the methodology presented in Jim
Collins’ book Good to Great (published 2001 by Harper Business). Optimus
created an acronym using the word “Great” to represent the new mission
statement:
- Growth with Profitability
- Raise the Bar
- Embrace Change
- Aggressive Pursuit of Customer Satisfaction
- Top-Notch Talent and Teamwork
Although the mission statement was new, the message still reflected
the company’s firm commitment to customers and its continued drive for
improvement and growth.
